GREAT SATURDAY!!!

January 23, 2010

Had brunch with my good friend Karla at Sylvia's and then received a complimentary facial from Ramona Singer (The Real Housewives of New York City).

I first met Ramona via telephone for an interview for my column at the Examiner (http://www.examiner.com/x-34933-Chelsea-Beauty-Examiner).

She was kind enough to invite me for a follow up interview (and facial) at Equinox Spa on 2nd Avenue.

I had a great faclal, a great interview and went home with some Ramona's great products from Tru Renewal!

What's Next? Model Call

July 6, 2009

Thoughts and ideas for my upcoming shoot:

With it being the September issue we'll definitely be shooting something for Fall.

Makeup trends will be very jewel toned and warm all at the same time. Hair has lots of texture and volume. No more flat, straight tresses. Fashion is very feminine and strong.

So a lot of contrasts going on for the upcoming season.

Think Downtown Punk meets Upper West Side. Like Madonna then (80's) and now (European)!

That said here's our latest casting call:

We are shooting for a salon industry magazine.
There is no cash pay. Credit and copy will be provided.

High Fashion
"Latina" or "African American" female model
Size 0-2
5'8-5'10
Under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or agency rep (model release)
Casting date July 19 shoot date July 20
Location TBD (within NYC metro)

Submit a link to your website or agency website. Attachments will not be opened.

Farrah & Michael Posted: Friday, June 26, 2009 6:26:38 PM on BehindTheChair.com

June 26, 2009

What can I say?

As a small child I remember watching Farrah on Charlie's Angels every week wanting to be an Angel and fight crime all the while looking HOT! Who didn't? It was the 70's!

I also remember cutting my Darcy doll (blonde, purple jumpsuit) in the feathery shag of "Jill" because EVERYONE (dolls included) had to have THAT HAIR!!!

It's still so influential in todays style. Look at Jenn Aniston and Beyonce. Only an ICON can achieve that.

And MJ! WOW!!!

My grandparents had Sinatra, my parents had Elvis and I had Michael.

I'm still in shock and get tears in my eyes every time a radio station plays a tribute.

It would take pages to express how much Michael influenced me as a Stylist and Makeup Artist and of course a fan of the most amazing music EVER!

From the afro, "jheri curl" and blow out he's done it all with his hair.

Thriller inspired me to get into spfx makeup and glamour makeup very young. Who else but MJ could have monsters and models all in one video? The team of artist that it took to achieve that video are to be commended!

Rest in...

Read My Latest Interview Ferenc Ecsecki

February 23, 2009

Read my latest interview at: http://ferenc.biz/archives/candice-jackson-makeup-artist-hairstylist-interview

Or read below...

Interview with Candice Jackson:

Q: Tell a little about yourself personally and if you attended school or you are a self taught makeup artist?
A: I have over 15 years experience in hair and makeup. I attended school for hairdressing and barbering. I am a licensed cosmetologist in both NY & CT. You have seen my work in music videos and film, on magazine covers, the runway, in fashion shoots, on makeover shows, and a few celebrities. I travel quite often for models, magazines and personal clients.

Q: Do you think going to school for make-up artistry is important to excel in the business later on?
A: Not necessarily. It’s a personal choice.

Q: Did you always wanted to be an artist, or did you stumble upon your talent by chance? Who or what inspired you to become a makeup artist?
A: I was always an artist. I started doing makeup and hair because I used to get in trouble for painting on my walls as a kid.

Q: What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about your job?
A: Making people not just look great but feel great....

A New Year a New You!

January 30, 2009

A New Year a New You!

By: Candice Jackson for Babbalu.com

January 2009

As 2009 fast approaches and you make resolution after resolution (that you know you’ll never keep) I recommend that you GET SOME PROFESSIONAL HELP!

…From your beauty expert that is (a shrink is up to you)!

This is the year for no more dull, dry skin, flat, lifeless hair or bad makeup choices! You know that Amy Winehouse liner was NOT for you!

My advice:

Please, please, please seek out a professional for a new hair color!

As a professionally licensed hair stylist I can’t tell you how many costly repairs I’ve done for a client who thought they’d save some time and money by coloring their hair at home! Your salon pro can make a more accurate diagnosis of what your natural level and tone of your hair is. One wrong pick of that $10 drug store color can cost you upwards of $250 and several visits to the salon to get you back to a “natural” shade instead of that orange you ended up with!

Not to say there aren’t things you can do at home...
